What is a broadband and TV deal?
A broadband and TV deal is great if you want to bundle up your digital TV services with a broadband package. This way, you can pay a single monthly fee for your TV and internet, which can work cheaper than getting your services from separate providers. You’ll also avoid the hassle of paying separate bills to different broadband and TV companies.
If you choose a broadband and TV bundle with Virgin Media, you’ll combine the benefits of superfast fibre broadband with a selection of TV channels including sports, movies, dramas and entertainment. You can also get premium channel packs like Sky Sports, BT Sport and Sky Cinema.
Access to streaming services, like Netflix, can also be included within your broadband and TV deal when you subscribe to them. This means you can access loads of entertainment from different places on a single platform.
Why should I get a broadband and TV package?
There are plenty of different options for getting TV and broadband services, but there are some specific benefits to getting them bundled from just one provider.
- Simplicity – It can be easier to manage your services if everything is in one place with one point of contact. Also, you’ll usually only receive one bill for your services, making it easier to keep track of your finances.
- Price – It’s not always the case, but you may get a discount or a better deal by bundling TV and broadband.
- Extras – Sometimes extra incentives are included with new broadband and TV deals that are not available to customers who buy the services separately. Make sure you look out for the latest promotions and offers available with Virgin Media. These are often labelled against the respective packages above.
Can I get a bundle with broadband, TV and a landline?
Yes, it’s probably more common to find service providers offering broadband, TV and landline packages, than just broadband and TV.
Many of us use our mobile phones and WiFi connections to communicate more than we use a traditional phone line, so the need for a landline is going down. If this sounds like you, choosing a broadband and TV package means you’re not paying for a service you’re less likely to use.
If you still use a landline to talk to people, or whether you use the line for another reason, such as a security or health system, Virgin Media has great broadband, TV and phone packages to choose from. Our Talk More Weekends plan gives you unlimited weekend calls to all UK landlines and mobile networks. You’ll get inclusive weekend minutes to 0845 and 0870 numbers too. Explore our broadband, TV and phone deals.
Can I get broadband and TV without a phone line?
Yes, you can get broadband and TV, without a phone line in the package. Many of us rely on our mobile phones and services like Skype or Zoom to stay in touch with friends and family more than we do a traditional landline. As no one wants to pay for a service they’re not going to use, many providers have a number of broadband and TV packages available, to cater for this need.
Virgin Media has a range of great broadband and TV deals that come without a landline. It’s possible for us to do this as all our services come through one fibre optic cable.
Other broadband connections, like ADSL, still rely on a copper landline to connect your property to the internet. This can be a slower alternative to fibre broadband.
How to choose the best TV and broadband package deal
When you’re looking for a broadband and TV deal, it’s best to have a clear idea of what you want from your provider. Try to work out some of the most important things you want from your broadband and TV package before you start looking:
Download limits
Most broadband connections that come through cables or phone lines do not have a download limit. You can stream, game and browse without worry that you’ll be cut off for exceeding a set download cap. It’s worth making sure there are no hidden fair usage limits or throttling at peak times as this can slow you down, and even cut you off, if the provider thinks you’re downloading too much.
Download speed
Considering how fast you want your internet to be is a big factor before you select a broadband deal. If you routinely stream large HD videos or play online games, you’d need a fast internet connection. Before you make a decision, it’s worth doing a little research into broadband speeds on offer before you choose your package.
Availability
You’ll need to see what you can get in your area before you choose your broadband and TV bundle. Fast broadband networks are always expanding but it’s best to check to see what’s on offer where you are.
Equipment
Find out what types of TV box, WiFi router and set-up are on offer or needed for different broadband and TV deals. If you’re getting a new wireless router, make sure you understand what it can do, how much you have to pay for it and how will it best function in your house. Also find out if you have to pay a connection fee, a delivery fee or any other charges to get you set up.
Customer support
How will you be supported if something goes wrong? How easy is it to get information or have an issue resolved? Many providers have teams to help support you if there are issues with your connection, and some offer premium support if you need extra help.
Contract length
Find out how long you are committed to the deal you are looking at. A standard length of contract is usually around 18 months and when this period ends, you’ll usually be moved onto a 30-day rolling contract. At this point it’s easier to start looking for another provider if you see a better deal, or you’re unhappy with the service. It’s also worth checking if there are any penalties for leaving your service during the initial contracted period.
Cost
You’ll want the best broadband service you can get for your money, but make sure you look past the initial price you’ll pay. Many broadband and TV packages will go up in price after a period of time. Also, make sure you understand if there are any set up fees that will be added to your first bill to avoid any surprises when it lands.
Channels
Aside from having a reliable internet connection, you’ll also want to know what TV and entertainment options are available. It’s great having access to hundreds of channels, but if you’re only interested in a select few, you may as well as find a specific deal to suit you.
What types of TV services are there?
With so many channels to keep you entertained, here are some of the main ways you can receive them.
- Satellite: with a dish installed outside your home.
- Cable: an underground cable will bring you a TV signal. This is how Virgin Media delivers its services.
- Internet TV: delivered through your broadband, this enables services from Virgin Media, Sky and BT to offer on-demand television.
- Streaming: TV and film services from Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+ or BBC iPlayer offer their content through apps on smart TVs, games consoles or other plug-in devices.
Virgin Media offers a wide selection of TV packages, catering for sports, films, entertainment and more. As a customer, you’ll be able to watch the channels included in your package on our Virgin TV 360 box.
What channels do you get with a broadband and TV deal?
When it comes to channel selection, you’ll want to make sure everyone in your household is catered for. Our TV services come with the standard selection of free-to-air digital channels as well as some Sky channels. Some of our packs include premium channel collections as part of your monthly cost. These can be added as separate subscriptions too. Here are some of the popular choices.
- BT Sport: Exclusive access to Champions League and Europa League football. You’ll also get some Premier League matches, premiership rugby, UFC and more.
- Sky Sports: Access to Premier League football, golf, cricket, boxing, NFL and WWE, to name a few.
- Sky Cinema: Get a range of channels split by genre from award-winning blockbusters to little known gems.
Virgin Media offers a combination of both Sky and BT Sport channels. You can also get access to other major TV content providers like Premier Sports and Box Nation, as well as BBC, ITV and CBS. Use the channel selector above to find a package.
FAQs
Each TV and broadband package deal will come with terms and conditions, on price, duration of contract and all the details you need to make your decision. It’s important to know what to expect from your provider and what you’ll get in terms of installation, service and support.
Once you’ve signed up, you’ll need to stay with that service for a minimum term, which is usually 18 months with Virgin Media, or pay a cancellation fee if you wish to leave earlier.
Yes, it is easy switching providers as your new broadband service will be keen to have you as a customer and so they’ll be happy to help get things sorted. You’ll just need to decide on the cancellation of the old service and fix a new start-up date; they will help you with the rest. Learn how to switch broadband providers.
Your new provider should outline the method of installing your services. Most will also offer to send an engineer round to get things set up for you and show you how everything works, although this can come with an additional charge.
Virgin Media bundles that have a broadband and TV service include a wireless router, so you can get online, and a Virgin TV box, so you can watch TV.
When you order your services from Virgin Media, you might be asked whether you want to install them yourself using one of our QuickStart self-installation kits, or you want one of our technicians to come and set everything up for you. If you install your services yourself, everything you need to know will be included in the kit. Learn how to install Virgin Media broadband.
With the Virgin TV Go app and the Virgin TV 360 box, you can use various streaming services, if you don’t already have access to them on your TV. This means you can watch online players such as Amazon Prime and Netflix (when you subscribe), and catch-up players like BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, and All 4.
